Just finishing up day 6 of my 7 day BFF meal plan to get rid of bloating. The food has been really good overall but tonight's supper was fantastic, even Hubby agrees. Had the burgers with salad and squash fries. It was all great and a milestone for Hubby; first time he has ever eaten a burger made with actual ground beef. He is not a fan of ground beef and I usually don't even cook it in the house as just the smell turns him off. I found a great quality humane ground beef at Sobeys -Aspen Ridge- and it's not overly beefy tasting so he was willing to give it a try. It worked for him :) Hubby had his on a whole wheat bun but I am still avoiding gluten so I had it as the recipe suggested and it was excellent. Rest of the day was great as well, had my eggs with leftover plantain (banana) bread and kiwis for breakfast. Leftover "spaghetti" for a late lunch and no snacks. One day left but I am really seeing a difference in my bloating so I will continue to follow this way of eating as much as possible.

I have been following the BFF meal plan (Bloat Free Forever) for 5 days now (with a hiccup on day 2) and I am noticing improvement with my bloating. I am not bloated nearly as often now and the bloating has minimized as well. The food has been good overall and easy to make. The portions I am finding pretty big and I am very happy not to be starving throughout my day; even with only 1 snack. Tried a couple of new recipes today. Breakfast was eggs with plantain bread, although I used a green banana as I couldn't find any plantains, so I guess it was banana bread. The bread was different but nice, although I didn't really like it paired with the eggs. I found the bread pretty sweet and more like a pancake. I think it would be great topped with some fruit and maple syrup :) Really liked the fact it only had 3 ingredients and was super simple to make. Lunch was the leftover Noodle Bowl from yesterday, which was still great :) I added a little green onion to the top. No snacks yet today, but I do have one Banana Muffin left; may eat that later tonight :) Then I need to decide do I make the muffins again because they are so good or do I try the Coconut Balls? Decisions, decisions :) Dinner tonight was spaghetti made with spaghetti squash. I found this meal pretty large as well; very filling. If anyone is interested in trying this plan please click the BFF link above. It's been great so far and I have followed Aglaee Jacob's book: Digestive Health with Real Food; in the past, which was great as well.
A great day following the 7 day BFF plan :) Food choices were extra yummy today. My meals today were a smoothie for breakfast. Leftover Chicken Soup for lunch. Banana Muffins for a snack, which have become a new favorite of mine. I have one or two muffins with a new nut butter I found (cashew, brazil, and coconut) and they are delicious :) Will be making these again for sure, and such a nice muffin without any gluten, dairy or added sugar. Dinner tonight was the Chicken Noodle Bowl. This was really good and Hubby really enjoyed it as well; which was great because he is not a fan of spaghetti squash. This recipe is another keeper :)
Stayed on track today :) Yay! All meals and snacks were from the 7 day meal plan for BFF. Breakfast was another bowl of the Banan'oatmeal. I am really enjoying it and it keeps me full for awhile. It's also great for a quick breakfast. Lunch was my leftover chicken with mashed potato and green beans; very yummy. Dinner tonight was chicken soup I already had made and ready as it was suppose to be my dinner yesterday but I got off track. Snack was a banana muffin with nut butter :) All great choices today :) So far the food has been really good and I find I am feeling full throughout the day. The only negative I have is the bedtime drink: the golden milk. I tried it again last night by diluting it with more coconut milk and water as I found it way to strong/spicy the first night. I just can't stomach it. I am forcing it down and feel nauseous when drinking it and for awhile afterwards. Not sure I can go another cup tonight :(
I started off today with the best intentions of following the day 2 meal plan for BFF. I was prepared and ready to go but things did not go as planned. Breakfast was fine. I made the Banan'oatmeal (no oats in it) and was surprised I really liked it. I find it very hard to eat anything really mushy first thing in the morning. I know, weird; think it's a texture thing, and early morning I'm a little more "gaggy" feeling. So I figured I wouldn't be able to eat this but I did and I really enjoyed it. Then things got turned around. To make a long story short I messed up timings at work and missed my lunch :( I quickly ate a Banana Muffin (made for this plan) to get me through the afternoon. I was sad not to eat my delicious chicken and potatoes leftover from yesterday. So now, I will have that tomorrow for my lunch. Next, a very kind parent brought me some of her homemade biryani this afternoon. This was one of the few foods I really liked while living in the Middle East. So I ended up eating a plate of that in between lunch and dinner. That is my main meal for the day now and it was delicious. I don't think it was too bad plan wise as it was mainly chicken and rice which are foods on this plan anyways. Dinner was suppose to be chicken soup today, which I already had made. Well, I have it for tomorrow evening now. The other hiccup in my day was it is my Dad's birthday and when we stopped down to wish him a Happy Birthday and give him a present we walked in on cake time.....I ate cake. I'm not proud of it but it's done now and I am moving on. Feel bad as I was so ready for the day but it just didn't pan out. A note regarding the Golden Milk recipe. There is a bedtime drink that I tried last night. I made a double batch and even thought as I was making it that the spices seemed to be in pretty large amounts. I will admit I could not drink it. Way too much pepper for me. I still have some in the fridge for tonight but not sure if I can stomach it. I plan to try it diluted with a lot more coconut milk and water but not sure if that will help.
For those who follow me regularly you know I have had a lot of trouble eating well lately. In addition, even when eating well, I am still having numerous health issues. I finally gave in and started taking prescribed medication and I have to admit I am feeling better. I am still waiting on a specialist appointment this week and blood test results; so hoping to get some answers soon. In the meantime I decided to try a 7-day online course - BFF (Bloat Free Forever). It is from Agalee Jacob, the author of Digestive Health with Real Food, which I followed for three months before Christmas. It worked really well for many of my issues but I still had other health issues that didn't improve enough and therefore prevented me from moving ahead from the elimination phase. This course is only 7 days so I figured it's only 1 week and if I can feel better than bonus. Day 1 is almost complete and I have to say the food has been amazing. It's not a fad diet or even a diet, it's to help with bloating; which has become very problematic for me lately. There's a 7-day meal plan including recipes and you can swap meals around and/or days around :) Each day has 3 meals and 1 snack and a bedtime drink (not alcohol). Today, I had a great smoothie for breakfast. Lunch was scrambled eggs with veggies and a salad (recipe was for a frittata but I did scrambled). Snack was homemade Banana Muffins, which are good although not sweet at all so be prepared for that. They have no gluten, sugar or dairy; but even Hubby liked them :) Dinner tonight was roast chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was a pretty large serving as well and it was delicious; I have missed mashed potatoes. Day 1 has been pretty busy with cooking and baking which is why I started today (Sunday) instead of tomorrow. I wouldn't have enough time to do this on a Monday; so plan well. I already have my pot of chicken soup made for tomorrows dinner. Love being able to make things ahead of time :) I'll keep everyone updated on how it's going and feel free to click on the BFF link above and check it out for yourself :)
Lately I have been in a funk and feel like I am losing way more battles than I am winning. It is definitely a daily struggle to eat better and I understand all the conflicting ideas out there. Eat grains, don't eat grains, only eat whole grains. Eat fat, don't eat fat, only eat healthy fats like olive oil and coconut oil; no wait some people say coconut oil is still unhealthy. Eat lots of protein including meats but only grass-fed, no don't eat too much red meat, no don't eat any meat and be a vegetarian or better yet - a vegan. Some days I just want to sit down with a tub of cheese balls and numerous bars of chocolate and just gorge. I understand the struggle people, it isn't easy.
I am still struggling and still trying (most of the time some days and not as much some other days). Today has been pretty good. I cooked a Pork Stir-Fry for supper with some brown rice. I am trying to avoid grains and gluten but just want something different. So tired of simply meat and veggies. I roasted my last local chicken tonight for dinner and it was massive. I should have weighed it. It took up the full baking dish and took more than 2 hours to fully cook. This is the baking dish I use to roast 2 grocery store chickens together. It was delicious with roasted veggies and olive oil :) My dinner was only half the breast and that was plenty. I haven't posted lately as I had a pretty bad week last week. Not food-wise but health-wise. Didn't seem to matter what I ate it did not agree with me. I ended up eating very little and meals were just whatever was easy and available. Had some leftover soup from the freezer, chicken/pork patties, some plain homemade chicken stock, eggs, etc... Saw my family doctor and she is now suspecting IBD, such as Crohn's, instead of IBS. I have more appointments for tests to see and have a new medication to try. I really veer away from medications but I was so bad last week I'm willing to try anything at this point. Hoping to just feel better and find out what the problem is and hope to deal with it more naturally in the future. I am feeling a little better the last couple of days and am trying to get back to cooking meals. I did make a pot of bison/beef soup yesterday for supper but didn't take a picture.
