Tonight we went to Magnum & Steins; an old favorite. I went mainly for a March special I happened to see this week; poutine. I will admit, I dearly love a good poutine :) They make it with local cheese curd and homemade 5 bone gravy, nom nom nom. Yes it has deep-fried fries but I made a decision to splurge a little tonight. We started with drinks. I had my usual; their signature Star-burst Martini; delicious as always. For food; I ordered the Poutine. Hubby ordered the Duck Nachos (an old favorite that I helped with), the wings (I ate 2), and 2 fish tacos. We ordered all food from the bar menu; they have an additional restaurant menu. We also splurged extra and had dessert, extra yummy :) I had a Beet & Chocolate Cake which was excellent; yes beet. Hubby had the creme brulee which he loved as well. I admit we did indulge tonight but I am happy that we went with more homemade or scratch-made foods at a nice restaurant than heavily processed options. Again, I will say, moderation.
So today was a pretty good day but didn't follow real food guidelines 100% for dinner. We like to go out to restaurants and I love not having to cook or clean up for an evening; but it can be very difficult to follow all the guidelines when eating out. I don't want to be that person that asks what is in everything and need foods made certain ways. I wouldn't mind so much if I had allergies or illness to specific foods and ingredients; but I don't, so I don't want to be a complete nag when eating out. I want to enjoy the food and the experience. You can order pretty good options from many restaurant menus; some are better than others of course; menus and restaurants.
