Cooked dinner here tonight! As you can tell by the title I kinda like me a good cooked dinner. The only thing better than cooked dinner is cooked dinner cooked by my Mom; and this one was! Woohoo! Thanks Mom :) Hiding beneath all that delicious homemade gravy is potatoes, carrot, turnip, pease pudding, salt meat, dressing, and pork :) Yummy, yummy, yummy. A great meal, cooked by the best, and no cleaning up here. What more could a person want?

Made a huge batch of pasta sauce tonight and had it with rice ribbon noodles. A great meal and lots of sauce left to freeze for later meals :) No real recipe here; just throw in lots of veggies that you like and have on hand. I added red onion, bell peppers, zucchini, spinach, and tomatoes. Cook the veggies with some olive oil and garlic and add some pasta sauce. Done :) Serve on pasta or noodles!
Went to Tavola for brunch on Sunday. Had no plans to beforehand but saw they had an Eggs Benny on the brunch menu and decided to give it a try (seems the Facebook posts are working, lol). So glad we did as it was delicious. The eggs were soft and gooey, just the way I like them for a Benny. The ham was thinly sliced and tasty; it seems they cure their own ham. Who knew, but good to know. It came served on a homemade tea biscuit instead of the more traditional English muffin. The tea biscuit was fantastic. So tasty and crumbly with just a hint of sweetness. It all went together perfectly. The meal came served on a wooden tray which looked really nice but I didn't want to lose any of my gooey egg goodness into the wood so I asked for a side plate to eat my Eggs Benny from. Yes, I am that special kind of crazy :) lol Hubby ordered the Ham Panini sandwich with hash-browns. The hash-browns are not deep-fried there, and although they are pan-fried they were not even greasy. He said it was delicious as well. The serving size was a little small but what it lacked in size it made up for in taste. Hubby's comment was quality over quantity. He said every bite was fantastic. I also want to add that not only was the food fantastic but the service was top-notch. We had a server that we have most times we are there but I never seem to catch her name. She very helpful, as always, with ordering and informative for what they offer and what they can change. Very accommodating. Hubby tries to keep his fat amounts low after his heart attack last year. He chatted with the server and ordered the sandwich without cheese and with the aioli on the side. She suggested leaving the aioli off altogether as it is simply straight fat and adding more tomato jam. She also said they would chose a less fatty piece of ham for his sandwich.
We always love the food and service when we go to Tavola but for some reason we don't seem to go too often. Will have to change that :) Hubby is already talking about All-you-can-eat Spaghetti and meatballs on Wednesday. He is a sucker for homemade pasta :) We have been really enjoying the Asian Fried Noodle dishes we have been having out lately; The Peaceful Loft & Magic Wok in particular. We decided to give it a try at home, and for a first attempt it was pretty darn good. With some tweaking I think it could be very good. Ours was not nearly as oily as the dishes we get out; that's both good and bad. We don't want to eat too much oil but it seemed a little too dry. We used sesame oil along with garlic olive oil, tamari sauce, and very small amounts of mild curry powder and crushed red pepper. It was a good flavor overall but really mild. It actually needed more, so next time we will increase it and try to capture that great Asian flavor.
So much for trying to cook home more this week. I did cook Monday and Tuesday, Woohoo, that's two days. Then we went to EVOO on Wednesday. Had to as they had some great sounding vegan options and we had a gift card :) Couldn't let that go to waste, right? Right! We had the same apps as the last time we went; I had fries (they came with beet ketchup this time which was different but good) and Hubby had bread-sticks (he said they were still good but different and not as good as last time). Mains were the Vegan Lasagna for me (a special that evening, not on the regular menu) and the Mushroom Pappardelle (from the vegan menu) for Hubby. Both were delicious. The Lasagna was so rich and creamy; the only suggestion I had was it could actually use more pasta. I would also like to add that along with the food being great the service was fantastic! We had a lovely server, Georgie, I believe her name was. She was great!
