Breakfast this morning was a couple of boiled eggs with butter and salt, along with my decaf coffee with milk.
Lunch ended up being skor mini bites while out running errands and then cheezies when I got home :(
Going without sugar and eating 100% real food for this entire week was a good idea except I had forgotten that this was a holiday weekend and that made things a little harder. I also had some cravings today and was in a mood so ended up falling off the wagon completely for lunch. I didn't use it as an excuse though to go nuts for the rest of the day, so that's a big improvement for me :) Breakfast this morning was a couple of boiled eggs with butter and salt, along with my decaf coffee with milk. Lunch ended up being skor mini bites while out running errands and then cheezies when I got home :( Dinner tonight was great though and almost 100% real food and no added sugars. We had bison burgers and some roasted potatoes. I bought whole wheat rolls for the burgers (only 60% whole wheat though). I had cheese, tomato, spinach and avocado on my burger and it was delicious. I have been craving a good burger for awhile now but usually don't have one because Hubby really doesn't like ground beef. He tried the bison burgers tonight and they were a hit. Yay!

It is the weekend, it's a long holiday weekend, and we have had 2 great days weather wise.I had a little slip today but just a little. Breakfast this morning the usual: coffee and oatmeal, no sugar. Lunch ended up out today at Oliver's, downtown. I didn't do too badly. I had a mimosa :) and I had fish cakes (made with cod), scrambled eggs, fruit and hash-browns. I hardly ate any hash-browns. Dinner tonight was another BBQ :) We were planning to have a BBQ at home and then we got invited out to a friend's for BBQ. I had part of a tenderloin steak, onions, corn on the cob and I caved and had some sausage. Hubby bought the Blue Goose chicken sausage to try and I wasn't planning to eat any because although they are natural they have cane sugar in them and I didn't want to eat the sugar. I caved and had one. I only ate one bite of it and I didn't like them so didn't eat it. They were Italian flavored and I didn't like the taste. Our friends also had sausages cooked; ones with bacon and cheese. I then caved and ate half of 1 sausage :) It was delicious :) Day 5 of no sugar but thinking I may not hold out the full 7 days :) Not because I am finding it hard but because I forgot it was the long holiday weekend and now thinking BBQ's, roasted marshmallows, etc... we shall see :) Still having major computer issues so didn't get to post this last night but the day went well. Breakfast was a little different this morning. Had an early rise for a vet appointment. First breakfast was a Larabar on the way out the door. When I got home I had second breakfast; decaf coffee with milk and scrambled eggs with tomato and cheese. Lunch today was Quinoa Casserole from the freezer with extra cheese. Still pretty good.
Snack was some pistachios and some dried figs. Dinner tonight was a family BBQ. Had my parents up for dinner. Had Shrimp for an appetizer but fogot to get a picture, oops. We made the shrimp from the Grilled Shrimp Caprese recipe, they are delicious. For the main we had Grilled Tuscan Lemon Chicken with grilled corn on the cob and grilled asparagus. It was all great, along with a few beer :) Day 4 of both real food and no sugar and doing fine. I think if I was giving up all sugars such as fruit, milk and carbs then I would not have lasted this long. Breakfast this morning was oatmeal again, with banana and coconut. It's ok but not a favorite. I find the oatmeal really bland and still think it needs sweetness. I had my morning decaf coffee with just milk and that is fine. I can continue with that one I think. Lunch today was leftover pizza from last night. I re-heated it in the toaster oven instead of the microwave this time and it was really good. Nice and crispy instead of slightly mushy :) I will admit though, I don't mind pizza re-heated in the microwave too much and I like it cold as well. Dinner tonight was Pork Chops with Apples and Onions. A recipe I've made a few times now and we both really enjoy. I used chicken stock instead of beer today and it was still great tasting, the only real difference was no beer smell. I tried roasting eggplant in the oven as a side. We were not impressed. It was really bland and very mushy. Not sure if I didn't cook it properly or if the eggplant was a little old. Anyways, won't be having that again, we both didn't eat it :) Day 3 out of 7 for no added sugars and still going well. I will admit I did have some cravings last night. I had popcorn with coconut oil and salt as a snack but still wanted something after eating it. Craving something sweet like chocolate but I didn't cave :) It wasn't too bad, it passed quickly. Breakfast this morning was oatmeal with toasted coconut and banana. I also had my morning decaf coffee with just milk today. It was ok, I think I could get used to it but I do like just a little sweetness to cut the bitter. Lunch today was leftover Moose Stew from last night. It was still really good. Snack today was the last of my cheesy crackers (will have to make more) and a small glass of milk. Dinner tonight was margarita pizza, yummy. I made the whole wheat crust but I always get 2 crusts out of the 1 recipe. I like to call them rustic, I can never get them very round :) Then just topped with marinara sauce, tomato, mozzarella, and basil (Basil was added after cooking). That's it. Put some grated Parmesan on once done; delicious and simple. Day 2 of 7 of eating no sugar and it's going well. Had a dream last night though that I was in a cupcake shop and they were giving out free samples but they wouldn't give me any. So it seems I can't even eat sugar in my dreams :) Breakfast this morning was oatmeal again. I had it with a little coconut oil, toasted coconut, and blackberries. Pretty good but I will admit I find the oatmeal very bland without any maple syrup or honey. I also had my morning decaf coffee with just milk and a little coconut oil. It was ok, better than the vanilla in it, but may just try milk tomorrow :) Lunch today was the leftover Grilled Shrimp Caprese from last night; and it was even better as leftovers. Delicious. Snack today was some pistachios and some cheesy crackers. The crackers are almost gone so will need to make more of these :) Dinner tonight was Moose Stew, just used moose instead of beef in my beef stew recipe. I really enjoy this dish :) with either moose or beef :) Day 1 back on real food and no sugar, and it hasn't been too bad. I haven't turned into a stark-raving-mad lunatic.....yet. Breakfast this morning was a decaf coffee except no maple syrup in it today. I also didn't have any coffee cream because the grocery store was out of organic natural cream. I used whole milk and a little vanilla instead. It wasn't bad but think I will just use the milk tomorrow, the vanilla left a funny after taste. Instead of my usual granola this morning I had oatmeal with a little coconut oil, toasted coconut and raspberries. First I tried to make it in the microwave, according to the package direction, (see picture below) it was not a success. I boiled water instead and let it sit a few minutes. It was ok, need to get used to no sugar at all though. Lunch today was some leftover chicken and veggies. First snack today was a few cheesy crackers. I found myself getting pretty hungry late in the afternoon, actually felt a little shaky. Not sure if it was in my head or related to no sugar although I am still having fruit and carbs. So second snack was pistachios and a banana. Dinner tonight was a new recipe: Grilled Shrimp Caprese. It was delicious with a few tweaks of course and a few more the next time :) I used 1 lb of shrimp but cut the rest of the recipe back to 4 people. I also cut the pasta back to only 8oz of dry pasta and they were still 4 really big servings; could cut it back a little more. I also cut back the cheese due to many of the reviews and could have cut it back even more. I used 1/2 cup parmesan which was good but 1/2 cup mozzarella was still pretty cheesy, maybe just a little shredded on top next time. Last recommendation would be some garlic in the sauce :) The shrimp were delicious and will likely be made as appetizers another time :) It seems I have a lot of trouble with moderation. I am fine when I am cutting certain things out but when I allow myself to have a little something then it all seems to go downhill from there. This weekend has turned into a junk-food and restaurant fiasco. It started Friday on my Dad's birthday. We went to my parents for a family BBQ which wasn't too bad until dessert time. I had cream puffs and cheesecake, and there were a lot of cream puffs, mmmmmmm. Saturday was out to a restaurant for dinner again and I also had cheezies, chocolate and chocolate milk throughout the day. Today (Sunday), we had a family lunch of Chinese food for Mother's Day, and again, more cream puffs.
I need to make more of an effort and I do better when I follow guidelines so tomorrow is back on 100% real food as before. I will take it week by week so I can fit in some outings and celebrations over the summer break :) This week I will go back to the rules from the 100 day real food challenge but I am also going to try and eliminate sugar this week. Just sugars, which during the challenge is pretty much just honey and maple syrup. I am not eliminating carbs or fruit. We shall see how that goes :) Stay tuned next week for what I'm sure will be the ravings of a sugar-withdrawal maniac :) A great day family-wise, not so great food-wise.
Breakfast was the usual: granola, milk and a morning coffee. Lunch was the leftover halibut from last night's dinner. It was still good but not as good as last night. Snack today was a few cheesy crackers, Dinner tonight was a BBQ at my parents. It was Dad's birthday today, he turned 59. We brought our own grass-fed beef T-bone steak and split it between the both of us. We had baked potato with butter, Parmesan asparagus, corn on the cob with butter, and mu. All the food wasn't 100% real food but it was good and we didn't go overboard. Had a few beers as well :) I also had some grilled sausage as an appetizer but didn't have any Bbq'ed wieners with BBQ sauce. I also had some cream puffs and cheesecake for dessert. Like I said before, I have trouble with the moderation aspect, it tends to be all or nothing. Breakfast this morning was granola, banana, milk and a morning coffee.
Lunch was leftover Spaghetti and Chicken Meatballs from the other night. No snacks today. Lunch was really filling and we have plans to meet friends for coffee and then we are going out to dinner :) Really looking forward to eating out in a nice restaurant (Saltwater); and it's really nice not to have to cook anything today :) Dinner was excellent but I ended up with really bad stomach pain while at dinner. So bad that I couldn't finish my meal and had to take it home, even though it was delicious. I'm not sure what did it, the large portions, the wine with dinner, or the 1 little slice of white bread I had from the bread basket. It was the same gas pain I have gotten for ages but this was the first time in several months and probably one of the worse in a year :( Not happy. First of all I had a decaf tea with honey earlier in the evening with friends. For dinner I had the seafood chowder (a pretty big bowl) and for my main I had a special of halibut done in a brown sugar sauce with almonds and veggies. It was fantastic but by then I was done so took most of it home to have for lunch :) (Hubby had a Meza plate for an app, which was huge, and a special of halibut and lamb with veggies). |
