Monday we ended up eating out because Hubby took the day off and we spent the day out and about and ended up trying a Fish & Chips place (Chafe's landing) that we have wanted to try for ages. The fish and the fish cakes are excellent. It was so good I took my Mom and nephews there again today. I did try to make better choices by splitting the fish & chips but ended up having a soft drink; first one since Christmas.
I can't seem to get back on track, quickly or easily after I eat something I shouldn't :( Once I get a taste of junk food, deep-fried, chocolate, etc I start to want it all the time again. I'm tired of cooking and prepping for ever meal, every day. I'm actually tired of vegetables and really did not want to cook the chicken and veggies that was on the menu for tonight. I am very tired of eating salmon as well. I have been eating take-out and chocolate again and really craving it. I'm tired of the concept of "I can't eat this" or "I can't have that"; it makes me want it even more. Tried to get back on track yesterday and made a fish with olive tapanade yesterday from the 10 Day Detox Diet book but it was not good at all. Myself and Hubby couldn't even eat it :( Not sure what the next step is; maybe just following real food again. It worked, just not very fast, but at least I could eat dairy, grains, some sugars, fruit and potatoes. I also felt much better on the 10 day detox but not sure which foods that was due to. Who knows?

So better choices could have been made this weekend but they weren't so I am moving on. Friday went great for the day. I ate all the proper meals but than I went to a friends house for a get together. I drank lots of wine and some beer, and I ate a couple of cookies; but I don't think they mattered much because they didn't stay down long :) Saturday I was not feeling well at all and just wasn't up to prepping and cooking. Also, after a few too many drinks the night before I had major junk food cravings. I did my shake in the morning for breakfast but than it went downhill after that. I had fish and chips with gravy and tartar sauce and onion rings. I didn't eat it all, barely half, so that's a help. Than last night I had some plain Lays as a snack and I had a chocolate milk (my hangover comfort drink). Not the greatest of days. Today is Sunday and instead of continuing with my bad choices and figuring I'll just start again Monday (which is what I normally do), I am back 100% today. Shake for breakfast. Pumpkin seeds for snack. Leftover Spiced Turkey Wrap for lunch. Grilled Salmon with Onions on Arugula for dinner. Today I wasn't feeling well again, really tired and run-down and overly blah. I figure it's from the drinks and the junk food yesterday. It really showed me how great I was feeling the last 10 days while following this so I'm back with it :) I have completed the 10 Day Detox Diet. Don't get me wrong, it isn't just 10 days and you're finished, it's a 10 day strict detox and then you choose from 1 of 3 plans to continue on with. I will be continuing on with the basic plan which allows me to start reintroducing some foods. During this 10 day detox I eliminated all alcohol, caffeine, sugars, grains and dairy. I also had only a handful of fruits and only in the morning in a breakfast shake. It may sound daunting but if you have weight problems and medical and health issues, a lot of it comes down to what you are eating. I know many people are thinking if you eliminate all that than what's left? Meats/proteins, healthy fats, vegetables (except potatoes, corn and sweet potatoes), and nuts. Red meat was limited to 1 meal in the 10 days. Pork was not an option. Lots of chicken, turkey and fish. Eggs are also a good protein. My results after the 10 days are very good and I am very happy. Happy enough to want to keep following this plan. I lost 6 pounds in 10 days. I lost 2 inches from my waist. My blood pressure, although not really high, still dropped over the 10 days. I didn't measure blood sugar because that is not a problem I have. I am sleeping better most nights. I have more energy and feel better overall. Most IBS symptoms have disappeared or lessened greatly. The pros of this diet for me: 1. Great results in weight and health aspects 2. Some really good recipes 3. Some flexibility with recipes 4. The option to not follow the recipes and cook what you want (as long as following the guidelines) 5. Plans provided to follow after the 10 days are up. 6. Variety of plans based on needs and wants 7. Stresses drinking water and exercise 8. The detox bath (I enjoyed this one) 9. The idea of limiting social media and tv time, especially in the evening The cons of this diet for me: 1. Very restrictive so can be difficult 2. Some people will feel pretty ill the first few days while coming off all the caffeine, sugar, and junk food. 3. Some recipes in book have misprints so need to be careful when following. 4. Recipes have no pictures 5. The pushing of taking vitamins and supplements, especially the fiber supplement 6. Daily reflections and questions are not for me. 7. Not having leftovers for lunches, therefore having to prepare lunch and dinner daily 8. Teeth felt grimy, had to brush my teeth often daily I plan to continue on although tonight, day 11, I am breaking 1 rule. I am going to a friend's party tonight and I will be having a drink or two :) but I plan to follow the food today (even though I will now be including some pork in my diet). Can't believe it is day 10. I admit it did go pretty fast and wasn't too bad overall. Most of the recipes were good, nothing was completely hateful; even Hubby agrees :) It was a lot of vegetables, A LOT, and I think we eat pretty well so I can imagine how daunting it would be to do this if you don't eat many veggies. Breakfast was the Whole Protein Shake again. I did make one change to the shake this morning though. Instead of using almond milk I used canned coconut milk. Two reasons: 1. I ran out of almond yesterday and 2. I don't like the fact that I can't buy almond milk without added ingredients such as carageenan and guar gum. The coconut milk has only coconut and water as ingredients. This I like. It also has more protein but also a lot more fat, but I figure it's a good fat and should help fill me up for longer. I plan to stick to the shakes most mornings and alternate with eggs or egg dishes. I found another shake recipe that looks good that I will try later. Again, I will likely make some changes and use the coconut milk instead. Lunch today was Green Goddess Broccoli and Arugula Soup and a couple of boiled eggs for the protein. I made this soup before I even started the 10 days just to try it and placed a serving in the freezer. It was ok, not a favorite. Broccoli is not a favorite veggie for me and even less so in a soup. Snack today was some raw almonds. Dinner tonight was simply roasted chicken and veggies. I decided not to make another recipe and instead to use up some of the veggies that have started to accumulate here. I roasted chicken breast with green pepper, onion, carrot, broccoli and mushrooms. I drizzled it all with Mushroom and Sage Olive Oil from O'Leva and seasoned with salt, pepper and savory. I also forgot to mention that since starting this we have been making and effort to pick up most veggies from local farms, mainly Lester's. Check back tomorrow to see my results from the 10 Day Detox Diet, what plan is up next, and the pros and cons of this diet.
Still doing great on the 10 Day Detox Diet by Dr. Hyman. One day left than it will be another plan to see which foods are problematic for me. I have a bad feeling it is going to be dairy :( Breakfast was another shake (shakes every morning). I had the Almond Strawberry Smoothie. I am really enjoying the shakes for breakfast. Lunch today was a new recipe. I made the Spiced Turkey Wrap with Avocado. I really enjoyed this. I made it almost as is, with a few minor changes. I couldn't find watercress anywhere and didn't use as much cayenne or any of the turmeric. It was a little odd with the cinnamon but still good. This was a great meal and very filling. Didn't need any snacks today. This would also be nice if the spices were changed out for taco spices. May try that next time. Another new recipe for dinner tonight. I made the Steamed Fish with Scallions. I used cod fish instead of snapper and left out the ginger; I'm just not a ginger fan. This was ok but not a favorite. We ate it but I won't be making this one again. Also a very light meal. Some fish, very few veggies and a broth. Another great day!
Breakfast this morning was the Whole Food Protein Shake. I am just alternating between this shake and the Almond and Strawberry Smoothie now. Lunch today was the same as yesterday. I had the Chicken Soup and made a salad. I did add walnuts to the salad to see if that would help fill me up for longer. I wasn't as hungry as some days but still needed an afternoon snack. Snack today was a couple of boiled eggs and some mixed nuts. Dinner tonight was another new recipe. We tried the Chicken Breast Stuffed with Sun-Dried Tomato Pesto with a side of Sauteed Spinach. Sorry can't find this recipe online anywhere, I may type it up later, but probably not :) It was ok; I ate it but probably wouldn't bother to make it again. The chicken was supposed to have a pocket cut into it and then stuffed with the tomato pesto, but instead I tried to roll it up. It didn't look very pretty :) Oh well, don't think it affected the taste. It's day 7 of the 10 Day Detox Diet. Things are going great. Today was my weekly weigh-in, and although I'm not finished the 10 day detox I did weigh-in and was very happy. I am down 5.2 pounds just this week. I know some people will read this and think well it's not good to lose that much weight at once or it will all come right back on as soon as I go back to eating "normal". Well I plan to try and keep following these guidelines while slowly introducing other foods. If some other foods tend to cause me health or weight problems than I will have to eliminate them again for awhile.I want to mostly make this my normal. Breakfast this morning was the Almond and Strawberry Smoothie. No morning snack. Lunch was leftover Chicken Soup (from the freezer) and a salad with oil and vinegar for the dressing. I don't find the soup and salad overly filling for lunch. I am very full just after eating it but I get hungry quickly afterwards. therefore I had an afternoon snack today and I figured just nuts wouldn't be enough so I had the nuts and 2 boiled eggs. This was a good snack and I was full until dinner. Dinner tonight was another new recipe. We had Beef with Bok Choy and steamed broccoli. This was pretty good but Hubby loved it :) I will admit I have never eaten so many vegetables before and I never would have served more vegetables alongside a veggie stir-fry but it is working :) Today was a really good day. Not hungry today and still eating everything I am supposed to be eating. Can't believe it is already day 6 of the 10 Day Detox Diet. All is going well. I am feeling better, sleeping better and losing weight. Don't get me wrong, it is hard. This weekend was hard not being able to go to a restaurant or just stop for an ice cream or a coffee, or have a drink; but that's a good thing because impromptu eating is often more unhealthy choices. The plan after the 10 days is to ease back into some foods and see if I can figure out which foods are not right for me. I am really hoping dairy is not one of them, fingers crossed. Breakfast this morning was the Whole Food Protein Shake again along with a boiled egg. That is my favorite shake but the Almond Strawberry one is pretty good as well. I plan to keep drinking these shakes for most breakfast meals. Hubby tried today's shake and said it's like drinking a granola bar :) Lunch today was a Chopped Vegetable Salad with Salmon. This was really good. It was a Mediterranean type salad and we used the olives. The recipe link is a similar recipe to what I followed from the book. There are some differences but the main difference is we had salad greens in the salad. I was surprised I enjoyed this because, as I've said before, I am not a big fan of salmon. I am also not a fan of olives; but together it all worked nicely. No snacks today. They weren't needed :) Dinner tonight was another new recipe, we tried Almond and Flax Crusted Chicken. This was really nice as well. There were no sides listed with this recipe; not sure if it was an oversight in the book or not. We had it with Roasted Asparagus. This was a really nice and pretty simple meal. Next time I may broil the chicken a few minutes at the end to crisp up the crust a little more. Still drinking my water daily and walking 30 minutes each day (my dog is loving it). I missed my detox bath the last 2 nights and I really miss it. Can't wait to get one tonight, lay back with a book and drink a lovely Steeped Tea :)
Day 5 is almost done and that puts me at halfway :) It is going well but I did fine myself a bit hungry again today, more in the morning and afternoon. Perhaps I am not eating enough at mealtimes or I just need to get used to this way of eating.
Breakfast this morning was the Almond and Strawberry Smoothie. I added a little extra strawberries and instead of 1 cup of water I used 1/2 water and 1/2 almond milk. This made it less bland. I also didn't use the ginger this time. I was finding myself really hungry after breakfast so for first snack I had a couple of boiled eggs and a decaf tea instead of the nuts. I could have had veggies and dip but I didn't have any dip made yet. Lunch today was leftover pan-fried cod and a salad. The requirements for lunch include a salad with protein option so this meal worked. I was supposed to make a chicken wrap recipe but ended up with other things to do and ran out of time. I do like the fact that you can veer away from the suggested recipes as long as you are eating the right foods. Second snack was a handful of raw mixed nuts. Diner tonight again changed from the plan. It was supposed to be a crusted chicken dish but again with less time I simply baked the chicken with veggies in the oven. I drizzled it all with Mushroom and Sage Olive Oil from O'Leva and salt and pepper. I also sauteed spinach with garlic and oil. This was really good and works in this plan because it is a healthy protein and I used the leftover veggies from this weeks cooking. Today is day 4 of my 10 Day Detox Diet and it is still going well. I am sleeping longer and better at night. I have not had any major IBS issues since I started. I am also losing weight. I have more energy and Hubby says I seem happier :) Maybe there is something to this after all :) Breakfast this morning was the Whole Food Protein Shake again which is pretty good. I didn't have my breakfast first thing this morning. Instead I ran errands first then came home and had it a couple of hours later. Big mistake. By the time I got home I was starving and after drinking my shake I was still hungry. I have found that I am pretty hungry all day today, but this has been the only day I've hungry following this plan so far. First snack today was some almonds. Lunch today was supposed to be a recipe for Cod Cakes and Salad but again I got caught up with things and ended up eating late and letting myself get too hungry again. So I pan-fried the cod in avocado oil with salt, pepper and chili powder and had it with a salad. Not too far off I think. Second snack was some pecans, and a spoonful of almond butter. As I said I have been hungry today :)
Dinner tonight was Stir-Fry Vegetables with Almonds. This was pretty good for a grain-free vegan dish. I had a large plate because I thought it wouldn't be very filling and I was pretty hungry; but I couldn't eat it all. Next time I make this I will leave out the ginger as I am not a big fan of it and found it a little too much in this dish. I think this would also be very good with extra protein (besides the almonds), maybe shrimp or chicken. |
