Overview of our first day of the real food challenge. Had power this morning and hadn't had anything cooked in the last 24 hours so made an omelet. It was delicious. Used onion, peppers, tomatoes, cheese, eggs, butter, salt & pepper. Also had plain yogurt, mixed with my own homemade strawberry jam and granola. Finished breakfast with a coffee with maple syrup and cream; Hubby had tea made the same way.
Day 1 of our 100 day real food challenge went well overall but it has been a challenge the last few days. We have been having some major power problems on the island. Starting Thursday we were subject to rolling blackouts so couldn't really make foods in preparation for our Sunday start. Then early Saturday morning, after a snowstorm the night before, we lost power. Over 150 000 homes without power; many without heat and the temperatures have been very cold, about -15 C, with a wind chill of -35 C. Power still coming and going, some people have it back, others do not and others still on rotating blackouts. Lunch was a large salad (lettuce, peppers, apple, pumpkin seeds, olive oil, balsamic vinegar and avocado). Along with a slice of whole wheat bread with natural peanut butter and jam. Finally, dinner was shrimp with whole wheat pasta and broccoli. The sauce was simply olive oil, garlic and red pepper flakes. It's been a good day overall. Day 1 has been a success and Hubby is on board and happy so far :) He just said "so far everything has been delicious but it is a bit of work".... funny, because I'm doing most of it :)

Almost forgot, we went to a comedy show before dinner last night (after being postponed a couple of nights due to the weather). I didn't have any food there because there were likely no real food options, but I did have 2 beer; beer are considered real food in the 100 day challenge :) I also brought Lara bars in my purse just in case we got hungry before we got back home to cook dinner. Didn't need them though; but better to be prepared, then less likely to fall.
