I have recently started having a coffee every morning (I am out of work until January and now have time in the mornings) and I love cream in my coffee. I try to stay away from the artificial coffee creamers and powders because they usually do not even have cream in their ingredient list; so I use Central Dairies coffee cream. Then I looked at the ingredients. One would think it should only have one ingredient - cream. Nope. It has 6, one of which is sugar (dextrose) and a couple I'm not sure what they are. Now it's not like you can't make cream with 1 or 2 simple ingredients such as milk and cream, so why add more? The same with my table salt. I expected to see 1 ingredient, again there were four and one was again sugar. I ask "Why"?
I have been reading food labels for years. I am always checking to see the serving size, the amount of calories, and how much fat it has. I rarely looked at the actual ingredient list. I was shocked to see that some of my everyday foods were not what they seemed.
