This Weekend May Be The Death Of Me

28/2/2016

This weekend may be the death of me but I'd go out with a smile and cinnamon roll sticking out of my gob :)

Went completely off plan this entire weekend. The wagon is indeed afire again and I am dancing around it laughing hysterically. Yes, I may have a problem.

I have pretty much eaten everything that I shouldn't this weekend. Had white flour, white sugar, gluten, processed food, junk food, and I'm sure many more things I shouldn't have eaten. Not sure what happened but just went a little bonkers and I am feeling pretty bad because of it :( Not sure I will ever learn.

On a happier note we found a great baker: The Old Dublin Bakery. Have been hearing and reading great things about his homemade goods over the last few weeks. Decided to try some of the items this weekend. Found out where he would be this weekend and got up extra early to drive to Flatrock for 10am Saturday morning. I didn't want to miss out on trying the Cinnamon Buns. Have heard great things about these buns and know they can sell out quickly. They are heavenly, so moist and tasty. Definitely recommend them but found they were much better the day of. Also tried his carrot cake; very good but I found the icing a little too sweet for my tastes. Hubby agreed it was sweet but still ate 2 pieces :) We also bought a Sticky Toffee & Date Pudding with his homemade Whisky Caramel Sauce. This was the bomb! Had it warmed along with vanilla ice cream; OMG! I could have eaten it all myself. So good.

Hump Day & Still Going Strong

Finally feel like I'm getting back into a good routine. I still have cravings, but try to stay on track and stay positive. I know I will have to eventually go back to a more restrictive plan as I still have tons of health issues that are not diminishing this time around, by simply following real food guidelines. I'll deal with that a little later.

All meals and snacks were great today. Dinner tonight was oven-roasted pork tenderloin simply roasted with garlic olive oil and sea salt. Also had pan-fried mixed veggies in butter olive oil, and Brown Butter Squash. Very tasty :)

Pizza Or Not Pizza?

Wanted something besides meat/fish and veggies for dinner tonight. Decided to try Cauliflower Crust pizza again. First, let me say that cauliflower crust is not the same as flour crust. If you go in thinking use it a substitute and they will be similar you are in for a rude awakening. It's very different but doable. I tried a new recipe tonight and I think with a little tweaking it could be pretty good...for a cauliflower crust that is. The recipe says it's a crust you can pick up, but mine was still way too crumbly. I think I could have probably drained out more liquid from the cauliflower, although I thought I drained out a lot. I would also make it a little thinner I think, and perhaps bake it a little longer. It tasted fine but would rather it a little firmer. It does has potential though.

Starting Week 2

So happy I finally seem to be getting back to a healthy routine. It only took 2 months.

Had another great day and starting week two. All real food options for meals and snacks today. Dinner tonight was fresh trout caught by my Dad. Fried it up in butter with a little salt; delicious. Also fried up some leftover roasted veggies (sweet potato, carrot, turnip, beet) in a little garlic olive oil. Added a little leftover diced bacon (pork belly soaked overnight in salt water) to the veggies. Of course, everything was drizzled with lemon olive oil before eating :) Delicious.

A Great Weekend!

Had a great weekend! Already posted about Friday and Saturday. Ate lots of great meals and stuck to my real food rules :) It does get easier after you get past the first few days. It also gets easier as you get into a routine and do some planning. The cravings lessen as well. I am still eliminating grains because I think they don't agree with me right now, and I feel much better without them.

Breakfast this morning was bacon (simply pork belly soaked in saltwater overnight), eggs, a few hash-browns and a Caprese salad (tomato, mozzarella, basil olive oil and balsamic vinegar). I am trying to continue to limit white potato as well but had a little this morning. Everything was great. After such a big breakfast I didn't really have much for lunch. Just a banana and then some plain yogurt, sweetened with maple syrup, along with some blueberries.
Dinner tonight was a regular; oven-roasted chicken breast and veggies. An easy meal, especially when Hubby does all the chopping, and a favorite. Great for leftovers as well :)
Also made some chocolate today for snacking. I haven't made this in ages and forgot how good it was. I only make half the recipe and added toasted coconut and almonds to it. It doesn't look the greatest as it hardened up too much before I got it poured out and spread. You really need to do this in a warm kitchen and use a warmed bowl for mixing (I don't bother with the food processor). It also helps if the maple syrup is at room temperature. It still tastes great so I'm not too bothered :)

Two Days Of Moo :)

Having a great weekend so far. Still doing great food-wise with no slip-ups at all :) Had some major cravings today while running errands but didn't cave, very proud of that.

So far I have had moo cow (beef, for those I confused) for dinner on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Hubby cooked Friday night. Had striplion (only half of one) along with mushrooms in a red wine sauce and broccolini and asparagus. It was all delicious. Also had a couple of beer with it, they were gluten-free, but still pretty good. I have been missing beer but have been a little afraid of what it may do to me after avoiding it for so long. The gluten-free seems fine and tastes fine. I get the Daura brand as I have had some before that were pretty gross.

Tonight's dinner was again cooked by Hubby :) Woohoo! Great weekend so far. He grilled pork chops but I had a prime rib this time. Had it with leftover veggies and grilled mushrooms. It was very good.

Four Great Days!

Happy to say I am still doing great following the real food way of eating. I've had four great days in a row and very proud of that :)

Eating all good meals and snacks. Also still eliminating all grains and most sugars :)

Dinner tonight was a roasted chicken and veggies. I will admit my meals are usually meat and veggies, as I'm avoiding grains, but I am enjoying it. I top most meals with generous amounts of olive oil after cooking :)

It has only been four days but I am starting to feel a little better and the scales have started moving in the desired direction :) Trying to take it one day at a time, stay positive and motivated, and not get too hung up over slip-ups.

Two Great Days In A Row!

It may not sound like a lot but two great days in a row hasn't happened for me over the last couple of months so I'm pretty happy and proud about it :)  All great real food meals and snacks.

Dinner tonight was oven roasted chicken breast with veggies. One of my favorite meals because it's pretty easy and I love the taste of oven-roasted veggies. I used carrot, turnip and sweet potato; all roasted in garlic olive oil. I also fried up some mixed carrot and broccoli just have something green on my plate :) I made extra to have leftovers for lunch, froze a meal, and have extra cooked veggies in the fridge when needed.

Feeling Better Today :)

15/2/2016

I was having a bad weekend and a really bad couple of months food-wise but getting back on track again today. Feeling much better as I have decided to be a little less restrictive with my eating and first try to get back to simply real-food eating. Need to get back to a healthy routine first and then I can start dealing with food-related health issues.

Had a great day and didn't eat anything I shouldn't have :) Feeling so great about this because the last several weeks I have been eating little things (and not so little things) most days on a regular basis that I shouldn't; Hershey kisses, goldfish crackers, chips, Starbucks lattes, etc...

All meals and snacks were great today and I'm not overcome with food cravings :) Had my green smoothie (with added avocado) along with some fried pork and veggies for breakfast. Snacked on apple slices with the kiddies in pre-k. Had leftover chicken and veggies for lunch. Had a couple of clementines and a Larabar for another snack. Cooked Halibut along with green beans and squash for dinner tonight. Feeling very good today :)

Feeling Like A Failure But Happy Valentine's Day

14/2/2016

I have been having so much trouble getting back on track since I fell off the wagon Christmas time; set fire to said wagon, and ran away from it shouting in glee and laughing hysterically :) I may have a problem.

I was doing so well on Digestive Health with Real Food (elimination phase) for about 3 months. Went berserk over the Holidays and now can't seem to stop eating crap. I even tried a plan a few weeks ago that was a little less restrictive (AIP) but couldn't seem to stick with that one either. I would eat 75% good and 25% bad during the week, but by the weekend it was pretty much reversed, with 75% bad :( The worse part is I feel like crap and know I'm doing it to myself by eating crappy food choices, but I can't seem to change it this time, sigh. This week was not a good week either due to my preschool having Valentine's parties all week. I had 4 different parties throughout the week with cookies and cupcakes, and then got lots of candy and chocolate as well. Don't get me wrong, it was delicious, but I went way overboard.

I know certain foods are problematic for me. It is not as simple as eat less and exercise more for me. I have more problems than weight issues that are tied to food. I have problems with grains and sugars for sure, and possibly dairy and likely some others. People can say if you don't have celiac disease then whole grains are healthy and good for you. Sorry, not true for everyone. It may not be scientifically proven but I know when I eliminate grains and limit sugars I feel better overall. I am less fatigued and my knees and joints don't hurt. That is proof enough for me.

I know I can't just give up as I have done so well and want and need to feel better. I have decided to go back to my real food eating for awhile to see if I can get back on track. I will still eliminate grains and limit sugar to only small amounts of honey or maple syrup. I am hoping to get back into some sort of healthy routine and then see how I feel. I can always go back to Digestive Health or AIP at a later date if needed.

My name is Michelle and I am tired of struggling with my weight. I am stopping the struggle.
This blog began several years ago as a healthy lifestyle change (really, diets in disguise if I'm being totally honest). Now it is evolving into a non-diet blog and that makes me extremely happy.
I have recently started this new way of thinking. There have been some bumps in the road, it hasn't been easy, I still question, but I am still learning.
If you struggle with weight and have issues with food and body image than join me on my journey. Hopefully we can learn together :)
