It's Halloween so expect some treats :)

Breakfast this morning was my new Maple-Date Paleo Granola I made yesterday, and it is really good. Had it with a some milk; delicious. I will be making this recipe again. Nice to have another granola recipe to alternate between. Also nice to have a grain free option that tastes great.

Lunch today was leftover Creole Jambalaya.

Had some Halloween treats for a snack :) It was bound to happen.

Went out for dinner tonight before we went to watch "The Shining". We ate at Saltwater and again it was excellent :) No apps tonight. I ordered the chicken dish from the menu and Hubby had a blackened salmon special. The food was delicious and the service was great. For dessert we split a special of Guinness chocolate cake with Baileys icing and Jameson caramel. Hubby loved this dessert, it was good but too sweet for me; something I have been saying more often lately.

Another great day :)

Breakfast this morning was whole grain toast with butter and a small glass of milk :)

Snack was a cup of Dark Chocolate Chai tea with maple syrup and milk.

Lunch was leftover Chicken Tacos from last night.

Also made a new recipe for granola today. Made Maple-Date Paleo Granola. It tastes pretty good and it is grain free. I would bake it a little longer than suggested. I did bake it for an extra 5 minutes than turned the oven off and let it sit in the warm oven for 10 more minutes. It was still kind of wet but it did harden up while cooling, but it is still a little chewy in texture. Plan to have it tomorrow for breakfast with some milk.

Dinner tonight was Creole Jambalaya. This is Hubby's recipe. I used less cayenne and a mix of regular paprika along with smoked paprika. Very good dinner :)

Excellent day today :) I have noticed that lately I am eating more junk foods than I should be and I know this is leading to more cravings for these types of bad foods. I need to start having things I like on hand here instead, so today I made a batch of chocolate. Yummy. Made it with whole almonds and toasted coconut. This will be my chocolate fix; and great timing for Halloween :)

Breakfast today was whole grain toast with butter and a homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte.

Lunch was a quick Caprese salad because I had nothing planned and a grilled cheese sandwich a little later.

Dinner tonight was Soft Shell Chicken Tacos. These were excellent. I made the taco seasoning as well.

Tonight I plan to have popcorn with butter and salt and a little homemade chocolate for evening snack :) and perhaps a glass of wine, we shall see. Looking forward to it :)

Halloween Party!

Today was pretty good considering we had our Preschool Halloween Party :)

Breakfast was simply whole grain toast with butter and a small glass of milk.

Snack today was a chocolate Halloween cupcake during our party :) These were store-bought cupcakes so not real-food friendly. I also had some popcorn with the kids while we watched an Halloween movie. The popcorn was fine because I made it myself. It was simply popcorn, butter and slat.

Lunch today was leftover pasta and tomatoes from last night's dinner.

Dinner tonight was cooked by Hubby. We had tuna steak cooked with olive oil and spices and drizzled with balsamic. We also had smashed potatoes, Hubby's idea. The potatoes were quick boiled than smashed with garlic salt, savory and butter. We topped them with Mushroom Sage Olive Oil from O'Leva. Very nice, although I am not a huge fan of tuna, the potatoes were really good :)

Didn't have the best weekend food-wise but did have a great weekend otherwise :) Made some good weekend choices like leftover Fishcakes and Grilled Fish with baked potato. Also made some bad choices like leftover pizza and McDonald's.

Today was pretty good. Breakfast was whole grain toast with butter and a tea.

Lunch was leftover Meatballs from the freezer. Also had a slice of whole grain toast with almond butter.

Snack today was not good. I got into the Halloween treats and ate 2 small bags of chips :(  Also had a Pumpkin Spice Shortbread cookie. Made these this weekend for a tea party and they are delicious. Almost didn't make it to the tea party with them :) Had extra so now have leftovers. Need the treats outta my house.

Dinner tonight was whole grain pasta with tomatoes, garlic and olive oil. Topped it with a little Parmesan cheese. Simple and delicious.

Had a good breakfast and lunch today.

Breakfast was whole grain toast with butter and a tea :)

Lunch was leftover Lasagna I made the other night.

Now it's dinnertime and it's Friday. Hubby has had a long week and is in for another long week at work and he suggested pizza for dinner. It's not the best choice but we try and make it a little better by not piling it with meats and extra cheese. We ordered from Pronto and had an Hawaiian with extra veggies.  Pronto also uses some whole wheat flour in its crust. It was really good :)

Had a pretty good day today overall.

Breakfast was whole grain toast with butter and a glass of milk. Found a another new bread at the grocery store that isn't full of preservatives, is whole grain, and uses natural honey as a sweetener :) It's ACE Bakery and it's a nice whole grain bread.

Lunch today was stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes, carrot, turnip and gravy. It was really good. I didn't cook it though; I was at a new business luncheon to celebrate businesses in the area :) I also had a piece of cheesecake, definitely didn't follow the real-food rules, but still tasty :) Sorry, no pictures of lunch, but a picture of my plaque :)

Dinner tonight was Chicken Fried Rice. A simple but tasty recipe I have been making for years.

POTATO CHIPS!!!!!!!!

22/10/2014

Woohoo! I finally found real food potato chips :) Yay! So exciting. When we originally did the 100 day real food challenge we didn't eat any potato chips. I stuck to popcorn. There were no real food options available at the grocery stores for potato chips; they all had extra ingredients and non-real-food oils. I know I could make them myself at home but to tell you the truth I really didn't want to get into making potato chips for a snack. I was already making tons of new things such as granola, jam and bread; so we went without. Today I found them. Ingredients are simply potatoes, olive oil and salt :)

Great day today :)

No breakfast today, just wasn't overly hungry.

Lunch today was leftover Lasagna from last night. Delicious.

Dinner tonight was my homemade Fish Cakes. Haven't had these in awhile but they are still great :) There are 3 pictured here but my eyes were bigger than my stomach :) I only ate 2.

Now have lots of leftovers in the freezer again :) Have Beef Stew, Lasagna and Fish Cakes for easy meals for lunches or dinners :)

Lunch today was leftover Beef Stew from last night. Still excellent, Hubby thought it was even better today.

Dinner tonight was lasagna. It was delicious. This is my own recipe. I added extra spinach and extra mozzarella today, yummy :)

A great day today :)

Breakfast this morning was a Chai latte I made myself :)

Lunch was a couple of fried eggs and bacon along with a glass of milk. I had to cook bacon because I needed it as a garnish for my stew recipe I planned to make for dinner. It had to be done, I took one for the team :) and the Coconut Bacon was not going to cut it :)

Dinner tonight was a Beef Stew recipe from my new Michael Smith cookbook; Family Meals. I received this cookbook after recently attending a great dinner which was prepared by Michael Smith himself. This is the first recipe we have tried so far and it definitely will not be our last :) This stew is delicious. I topped it with bacon and green onion. We also had a green salad with toasted walnuts, swiss cheese and coconut bacon. The coconut bacon was much nicer in the salad than on a baked potato :) For dressing I used olive oil and orange balsamic vinegar from O'Leva.

This blog began several years ago as a healthy lifestyle change (really, diets in disguise if I'm being totally honest). Now it is evolving into a non-diet blog and that makes me extremely happy.
I have recently started this new way of thinking. There have been some bumps in the road, it hasn't been easy, I still question, but I am still learning.
