Another hot and humid day here :) No cooking for me today. Hubby made dinner tonight. We had grilled pork chops, baked potatoes with butter and grilled tomatoes. Very nice and so much nicer that I didn't have the oven or stove going, I didn't have to cook anything, and Hubby did the dishes. Woohoo! Had an ok day today food-wise. I had a slice of homemade banana bread at Mom's today and tonight I had some chips. I find once I get started down the junk food road it is very hard to get off that road. I am still trying to do more real food options though. I am also thinking about trying the "10 Day Detox Diet". I wonder if a lot of my health and weight problems, along with my cravings, can be addressed by food. It may be worth a 10 day try to find out :)

I can't believe the weather we are getting here in Newfoundland this summer and it isn't even August yet. I know everyone is complaining and it is pretty humid but I am loving this summer. So nice not to be cold :)
Today was a great day food-wise. All real food options today. For dinner tonight I made Fish Chowder. I was still cooking but at least I didn't have the oven going :) It was delicious. I only used cod and salmon because I had well over a pound of just fish. The cod was fresh cod from Taylor's :) Yummy! Had a great day today! Only ate real food and feeling good :) Also doing a lot of research on other ways of eating such as low carb and low sugar and thinking about eliminating dairy. I wonder if a lot of my health and digestion problems are due to these usual culprits.
Dinner tonight was a roasted local chicken from Taylor's and roasted veggies. I simply stuffed the chicken with some onion and lemon, and drizzled it with the Wild Mushroom Sage Olive Oil from O'Leva. The veggies were taken from the recipe for Prosciutto Wrapped Halibut. It was all very yummy :) I also ate the chicken heart (which I love) and the liver (which I don't love) because the organ meat is supposed to be really good for you, sigh. It's a start :) There is so much information available regarding how people should eat, it can become very overwhelming, confusing and complicated. Every diet out there seems to contradict the one before it. Eat fat, don't eat fat, eat the right fats. Eat whole grains, don't eat carbs, only eat carbs in the morning, eat vegetarian or vegan, eat lots of meat and protein. Don't eat sugar, only eat natural sugars, don't eat anything that turns into sugar. Eat fruit, don't eat fruit, only eat certain fruits, only eat fruit in the morning. Eat veggies, don't eat starchy veggies. Don't drink juice, do juice cleanses. Eat low fat or non fat dairy, eat whole dairy, eliminate dairy. Eat beans and legumes, don't eat beans and legumes. Have caffeine, don't have caffeine. Eat 3 meals only, eat meals and snacks, eat every 3 hours, don't eat before bed. Count calories, don't count calories if it's real food, calories are all the same, calories are not the same. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! It can easily become very complicated trying to eat "right". I have been following a real food diet since January of this year (mostly, more on than off) and I admit I feel better health-wise and I have lost some weight but I still have tons of health issues and concerns which can often be linked to diet. I often question if I need to be doing more. I have been reading a lot lately about diets opting for less grain and less sugar, and it seems I can a link a lot of my symptoms to problems relating to grains, dairy and sugar. I really do not like the idea of cutting out entire food groups such as dairy and grains but I wonder if this would help me overall. I have recently started looking into "The 10-Day Detox Diet", and am thinking about giving this a try and see once and for all if I actually have major issues with sugars, grains and dairy. I will admit I have been giving into cravings the last few days. More so than I should have. I already mentioned the burger from McDonald's. I also had cheezies and bought chocolate for a night time snack, and had fish and chips with gravy yesterday for dinner. I am having major cravings and just want to eat everything these last few days. Although I am giving into cravings and eating things I shouldn't, I am still trying to keep it a little sensible. I only had the small bag of cheezies and only a 1 piece fish and chips which I didn't finish. Still not good but could have been so much worse. Today was a decent day. Breakfast and snack were fine, lunch was out but it was a good choice for what it was; had red pepper soup and half a turkey sandwich. Tonight I made a new recipe: Eggplant Parmesan. Yes, I was cooking today and had the oven going in this heat and humidity :) First time ever making or eating eggplant parm and it was really good. I liked it better than Hubby but he did eat it and is taking it for lunch tomorrow; so it can't be too bad. I served it with a nice tossed salad with toasted walnuts. A few notes regarding the recipe: I would suggest cutting way back on the cheese. I cut it back and I still found it was too much cheese; and I love cheese. Also, be sure to use fresh mozzarella not the overly processed blocks. The fresh is not greasy at all. I also used jarred marinara sauce and it was still delicious. No need to make the sauce if you are short on time. Having a very blah day today and not sure why. I will admit I gave into a craving last night for dinner. I really wanted a take-out burger and ended up getting a Big Mac and fries from McDonald's. Yup, I did. It was good but not as good as I remember. I felt bad after eating it (emotionally), but I need to remember that having something on occasion does not have to be that bad. Today was a decent day food-wise. Hubby grilled the last local grass-fed T-Bone steak and potatoes for dinner. It was good. I had the smaller tenderloin portion. Will need to go out and buy more local meat soon though. I am finding my posts are tending to get a little monotonous, and if I think this than most likely my followers have fallen asleep while reading :) So, I'm going to change them up a little. Instead of going through everything I eat everyday which, lets face it, is starting to bore me; I'll simply refer to the day as all real food or not and any new or favorite recipes. I will also occasionally post about food issues, topics, questions, etc...
Today was a good day food-wise. I ate all real food :) but I will admit I didn't feel very good last night or today and I am thinking it is due to my "cheat" dinner last night. I think the grease or white flour or sugar didn't agree with me :( Dinner tonight was a recipe I haven't made in years. I made Gazpacho from my Dr Oz "You on a Diet" book. This is a great, light recipe and requires no cooking. I topped mine with avocado and didn't bother to blend any of it. We also had grilled cheese sandwiches with it. It was a nice meal. I am loving the beautiful weather we are having this month. It is starting out to be a beautiful summer :) Breakfast this morning was a slice of whole grain toast with homemade strawberry/blueberry jam and fresh local cream. A childhood favorite I haven't had in years :) I also had a Steeped Tea Canadian Maple Latte which was delicious. (It looks really white in the picture because I topped it with frothy milk). I just received my first order from Steeped Tea and I am enjoying it very much. Later I will likely have an Iced Berry Mania Tea, mmmmm. Lunch was a leftover wrap from last night's dinner. Still delicious. I really love the Stuffed Pepper mix, in peppers or in tortillas. Snack today was a Caprese salad: tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, olive oil & balsamic vinegar. I also had some Brazil nuts. Dinner tonight did not go as planned. The menu was originally for Gazpacho and grilled cheese sandwiches, but I spent my entire day rearranging and cleaning out my office and I lost track of time. Also I really wasn't in the mood to chop all those veggies for the gazpacho :) Myself and Hubby decided to order out from Savvy. This will count as a cheat meal for this week due to the deep-fried, white flour and sugar. I had the Roasted Cali pizza (they are personal sized) with a side of sweet potato fries (I didn't eat them all) and brownies for dessert :) It was good and even better with no cooking/prepping and no dishes :) Another beautiful day here :) Sunny and hot and the house is registering 27 C most of the day. Hubby suggested choosing some meals this week that didn't require using the oven. Great idea :)
Breakfast this morning was simply local strawberries with fresh local cream. Lunch was leftover local Grilled Pork with BBQ Sauce and grilled corn from last night's dinner. The chop was still excellent :) Snack today was a Larabar and some rye crackers with hummus. Dinner tonight was Wraps and Caprese Salad. The salad was simply tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The wraps were made using frozen homemade tortillas, and the stuffing was leftover Stuffed Pepper mix from the freezer. I added lettuce, tomato and avocado. They were excellent, and no cooking :) Another great day and an end to a good weekend. Just realized that we had something grilled every night for dinner over the weekend :) Breakfast this morning was a fried egg and homemade hash-browns. along with my morning decaf and milk. Snack today was a Larabar while out running errands. When I got home I also had some local strawberries with local fresh cream, yummy. Didn't have any lunch. Dinner tonight was grilled local pork chops with homemade BBQ Sauce and grilled corn. The chops were fabulous. They taste so much better than grocery store pork and they were so juicy. We have converted, only local pork from now on :) I can still eat meat, yay! I have a snack planned for tonight that will count as my 2nd cheat meal for this week. While out today I bought chips and chocolate. I have been having cravings for the last 3 evenings and haven't caved so I am giving in tonight :) and I am so looking forward to it :) |
